Location San José is the capital of Costa Rica and has a population of one million. It is located in the central valley and is the transportation hub of the country. The city boasts some excellent museums, vibrant markets and a beautiful climate. Noteworthy museums include the Museo National, Museo del Oro Precolombino, and the Museo de Jade. The Teatro Nacional hosts operas, plays, ballets and symphonies throughout the year. Costa Rica is known for its rainforests and beaches, mountains and volcanoes, and coffee and banana plantations throughout the countryside. 

Program of Study (semester, summer) The University is renowned in Costa Rica for its design, art, architecture and photography programs; however, classes are offered in a variety of areas and some are taught in English. In addition, the University welcomes international students to study Spanish at its International Programs Department (DPI).  Students can complete an intensive Spanish language course in four weeks and then move on to a higher level Spanish class.

Living Arrangements Students are provided room and board with a host family. Weekly laundry service is also provided.

Eligibility Students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and be advanced students who have completed at least 4 semesters or the equivalent of college level Spanish. 

Additional Information Students will need a visa to study in Costa Rica for a semester. Resident directors assist students in applying for the visa.
