Berry College Archives: Your Gateway to the History of Berry College

Current Exhibits

The following exhibits are on display at the archives until Fall 2008. If you have suggestions for future exhibits, contact the archives.

Martha Berry's Daughters: The Girls of Faith Cottage

Martha Berry is known for her charitable spirit and her passion for helping the youth of Appalachia . However, one of her more generous contributions to this community receives little attention. Faith Cottage, an “orphan home” on the Berry campus, was began by Martha Berry in the early 20 th Century. This exhibit chronicles the history of that home and the girls who lived there.

Head, Heart, Hands:  Educating the Heart

The phrase, “educating the head, heart and hands” was first used at Berry in the 1905 academic catalog.  Since that time, it has become synonymous with a Berry education.  Please visit the Berry College Archives to view the second in a series of three exhibits tracing the evolution of each of these components.  “Educating the Heart” covers the religious heritage of Berry – from a small one room sunday school to a religiously diverse and thriving liberal arts college with many opportunites to help students develop spiritually.
