Welcome from the Dean

Get to know our new dean, Dr. Joyce Heames!

Dr. Heames comes to us from West Virginia University, where she served as Associate Dean of Innovation, Outreach, and Engagement for the College of Business and Economics.  Prior to that appointment, she was Chair of the Department of Management with programs in Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism, International Business, and Business Administration.  Her academic career began at Samford University in her native Birmingham, AL.

Her teaching centers on courses such as Corporate Social Responsibility, Human Resource Management, Talent Acquisition, and Training & Development.  She has taught courses at all academic levels, from undergraduate to doctoral.

Dr. Heames’ primary area of research is counterproductive work behavior, but also explores leadership, management history, and organizational knowledge transference.  Her work has been published in the Journal of World Business, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, Journal of Management History, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, and the Human Resource Development Quarterly (HRDQ). She has served on the Editorial Review Team and/or Board for noted academic journals such as Group & Organization Management, Management Decision, HRMagazine, and HRDQ.

Dr. Heames has over 25 years of experience in business and education as a trainer, teacher, facilitator, and college administrator. She has delivered executive education and professional development programs for organizations such as Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Steptoe Johnson Attorneys at Law, Mercedes-Benz, Davis Memorial Health Systems, WV Department of Environmental Protection, and the Forensic Management Academy.  As a popular speaker and trainer, she has delivered programs such as:

Dr. Heames is a member and officer of the Southern Management Association and has been a long-standing member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Human Resource Management, and Beta Gamma Sigma. She served as Chapter President of Beta Gamma Sigma in 2016. 

She holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Samford University and earned her Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
