Management Degree Goals
Management involves the planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling of business functions and organizations. It is concerned with the optimum fit of the organization's external and internal environments. Students with a major in management will study such topics as human resources management, organizational behavior, efficient production and service-delivery methods, strategic planning and other elements of the management process. Students can take a variety of electives to customize their major whether focusing on general management, international management or small business management.
The management major has three basic components. Berry College 's general education requirements provide a foundation in the liberal arts. The shared business core, along with the pre-core, provides students with a common set of basic business tools and a body of business skills and knowledge. Management courses are distinctive to the management major. Through these courses, management majors develop critical thinking and communication skills, learn to integrate and synthesize knowledge, and improve ethical decision making and leadership capabilities. The management major is distinct from other business majors because it focuses on the traditional managerial tasks of planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling.
