Teacher in Residence
2004-2005
Mrs. Tracy Schroeder
"This has been an exciting year for me. I made what I thought was a sizable leap from first grade to the college classroom. Yes, six year olds to 20 year olds. I found that teaching at the college level was not as different as I might have imagined. Teacher education candidates need many of the same things first graders need to be successful learners…connections to life experiences, explicit modeling, high expectations, and authentic assessment, to name a few.
The year in Berry’s classrooms and working with student teachers has allowed me to share what I know about teaching and at the same time reaffirm my beliefs about developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction. To say that this year has informed my practice would be an understatement. It has been an honor to be part of Berry’s faculty and to be respected for what I can bring into the college classroom. I now look forward with anticipation to returning to my primary school with a renewed spirit for teaching."
Teacher in Residence
2001 - 2004
Mrs. Fran Roe
"The Teacher-in-Resident position has beenthe most professionally rewarding endeavor that I have been involved in since I completed by undergraduate degree. It has allowed me to reflect on my practice, revisit theories and constructs that I had previously studied, share my wisdom of practice with junior and senior level education majors, and fine-tune my role as a cooperating teacher. I will return to the classroom a more effective, refreshed, and energized teacher, committed to best practice. "
