B.O.L.D. is directed by Berry College faculty member Mike King (M.Ed.; Director of Outdoor Education and Lecturer in the Kinesiology Department). Possessing more than 30 years experience as an educator, businessman, administrator, and outdoor adventure leader, his credentials include training from the American Canoe Association, Outward Bound, The Association for Experiential Education, The Association for Challenge Course Technology and experience as an instructor/trainer for The Y and the American Red Cross. This wide variety of experience is an especially important asset in relating to the many different kinds of organizations, their goals and expectations and guiding those organizations through program experiences.
Eric is the Assistant Director for the B.O.L.D. Program. He holds a B.S. in Environmental Science (Biology) and a Minor in Religion from Berry College. While at Berry, Eric was captain of the swim team for two years and worked for B.O.L.D. as a student worker. His leadership abilities, aptitude to assist others in personal growth and his enjoyment as well as his experience of the outdoors provide him the skills to facilitate each group/individual that participates on our course to obtain their goals. Some of Eric's hobbies include backpacking, caving, camping, swimming and kayaking.
Michele is the Secretary for Berry’s Department of Kinesiology and the B.O.L.D. Program. She has worked for Berry since 2000. Before arriving at Berry, Michele worked for 16 years in the Rome and Floyd County public school system. In 2003, she began working with B.O.L.D as a facilitator on the course. Michele’s responsibilities as secretary and staff have provided her with the opportunity to work with a variety of groups in diverse roles.
Dr. Jerry Jennings
Jerry is a Professor of Psychology at Berry College. He has worked with the B.O.L.D. program and Project Adventure at Berry College for over 25 years. As a corporate consultant in human relations and organizational development, he utilizes adventure based programs to enhance teamwork, problem solving, communications and leadership development......and, quite frankly, he's an all around good guy!
Being part of the B.O.L.D. Staff is just one more piece to the complex puzzle known as “Bernie”. His background is diverse and broad centering on teaching, training and helping others. Bernie focuses on personal growth and the Win-Win scenario. His primary profession was in law enforcement. Bernard’s skills were honed from the life experiences of: Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, Aquatic Director, retail Store Manager, Bouncer, Bartender, Health Club Manager, Professional Boy Scout, Money Currier, Sailing Instructor, Uniform Police Officer, Plain Clothes Police Officer, Law Enforcement Instructor, Police Commander, Small Business Owner/Partner, Challenge Course Trainer/Inspector, Professional Girl Scout, Public Speaker, International Traveler, Husband, Brother, and Son. Bernard started with B.O.L.D. in 2001 and lives by the philosophy that one who “stops learning, stops growing”. He received a Master’s in Public Administration in June of 2011.
Steve is the Chairman of the Social Studies Department at The Walker School in Marietta. He has worked with B.O.L.D. since 2009.
Dr. Zac Wilson
Zac is an elementary P.E. teacher for Bartow County Schools. He also teaches classes part-time for Berry and Georgia Highlands College, and works as dorm duty staff for the Darlington School. He is a Berry graduate (c2000) and he received his Ed. D. in Teaching and Learning at Liberty University in 2012. He has been working with B.O.L.D. since 2009.
Adam has been working with B.O.L.D. since 2008. He teaches business and computer science at the middle school level. His educational achievements include a B.A. in economics, M.A. in educational leadership, and an Ed.S. in Educational leadership. Adam has been kayaking for 13 years and teaches kayaking courses under B.O.L.D. He also enjoys hiking and camping. Other unique hobbies of Adam’s include raising small farm animals as well as singing and playing guitar.
Jamey began working with B.O.L.D. as a student staff in January 2005. He graduated from Berry (c2006) with a degree in Management and Marketing and later went on to receive a Masters in Natural Resources from the University of Georgia. Jamey currently works for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as a Park Ranger. In his spare time, he enjoys being outdoors engaging in activities such as hiking, camping and paddling.
Trish Abston is an adjunct instructor at Berry College and has been teaching middle school math for a total of 11 years. She graduated from Berry with a Mathematics degree in 2001. She earned her Masters in Education at Berry in 2004 and her Ed.S from Piedmont College in 2010. Trish is a wife and mother of two. In her free time, she enjoys mountain biking, cooking and adventure racing. She has been working with B.O.L.D. since 2007.
