Child Development Center
Believing that each child is an individual, the staff of the Berry College Child Development Center is committed to treating each child with care and concern. Because we want your child to grow in every area, we provide stimulating activities and enriching experiences that encourage growth and development socially, emotionally, and academically. Children learn through a well-planned environment, requiring activities that are appropriate for each stage of development. Classes are multiage, serving children three to five years old. A unique aspect of the program is the 1:4 adult to child ratio.
The goals of our program are:
* to help each child feel good about himself and his world
* to make each child feel he has dignity and worth as an individual and to be able to recognize those qualities in all others
* to help every child feel he is a unique person, capable of achieving and contributing
*to prepare children for a successful kindergarten experience
The Child Development Center operates on the log cabin campus in Atlanta Hall, Sunshine Cottage, and Faith Cottage under the guidance of the director, Ann Tankersley, and Dr. Jackie McDowell, Dean of the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences. The director is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the Center. The teachers are well qualified, experienced, and nurturing. All staff members continually strive to upgrade the quality of the program through in-service and continuing professional growth.
A half-day preschool program operates at the Center from 8:45 to 1:00. The Center is open from 7:30 to 5:30 as a daycare extension of the preschool. Children may be enrolled for full or half day. Parents may choose to enroll a child at any time following the child’s third birthday without waiting for the beginning of a new school year. Summer care is also provided.
The Berry College Child Development Center admits children of any race, creed, sex, national and ethnic origin, or qualified handicap. The Center does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, age, national and ethnic origin, or qualified handicap in administration of its educational and admissions policies or other center administered policies.
