The Charter School of Education and Human Sciences offers an Interdisciplinary Minor in Family Studies. The minor in family studies allows students to learn about dating and mate selection, family financial management, family strengths, communication, conflict resolution, relationship enhancement, parenting, care for the elderly, domestic violence, chronic illness, divorce, and family therapy. Family studies draws upon psychology, anthropology, sociology, history, and economics, yet it has its own unique theoretical framework, ecological systems theory. The American Psychological Association, the American Sociological Association, the American Bar Association, the National Education Association, and the American Medical Association have divisions dedicated to families, parenting, and close relationships. At Berry College, the minor in family studies attracts students from many majors across campus, including religion, literature, psychology, sociology, history, communication, business, and early childhood education.

Highly-motivated, selected students may also develop an Interdisciplinary Major in Family Studies. Proposals should be developed under the guidance of the Coordinator of Family Studies and the Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Studies. Click here for more information.
