Understanding the relationship between map and compass and the natural surroundings and using this understanding to navigate and "stay found" are the emphasis of this class. Traditional classroom and outside class settings introduce the fundamentals of orienteering and its benefits as a sport and as a functional skill to anyone venturing into the outdoors. The history, definitions, basic concepts, map reading, and navigation are discussed.
