Overview:

Department of KinesiologyAre you a self-motivated student interested in pursuing academic studies and/or potential career paths in sport? If so, consider the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program at Berry College with an emphasis on sport-related courses in the Department of Kinesiology. The IDS is a flexible degree program that allows highly motivated students to design and follow a plan of study geared to individual needs. The student actively develops a coherent, unified, cross-disciplinary degree plan in consultation with an academic advisor. The Interdisciplinary Studies program culminates with a capstone achievement (paper, project, internship, course, etc.) that integrates the student's coursework.

Please visit the Interdisciplinary Studies website to examine admissions criteria and degree information.

Field Experience

Department of KinesiologyPractical learning experiences in real-life settings are invaluable resources for undergraduate students. Such experiences allow students to apply theoretical concepts learned in the classroom to the actual work environment. Interdisciplinary Studies majors emphasizing sport studies or career opportunities in sport are encouraged to consider appropriate internships. North Georgia and the metropolitan Atlanta area offer an array of potential field placements in sport-related settings. Internships are typically available for varying numbers of academic credits (for which the student pays the current Berry College tuition rate) and must be approved by the academic advisor and IDS coordinator. Many sport-related internships are highly competitive.

Career Opportunities

While career paths for IDS majors will likely be as varied as the number of students who choose such a program, click here for a list of potential sport-related employment avenues. Note that advanced training or graduate academic studies in sport management or related fields is highly desirable.
