Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso joined the Berry College faculty in fall 1999. She earned her B.A. in Psychology at the State University of New York at Binghamton and her M.A. and Ph.D. at the State University of New York at Albany in Cognitive/Experimental Psychology. Her doctoral thesis examined perceptual pop out effects with familiar and “novel” words.
In the area of teaching, Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso offers several core courses in the psychology major. These courses include: Introduction to Psychology, Orientation to Psychology, Integrative Seminar, Research Methods and Statistics I & II, Cognitive Psychology, and Learning. She has also offered seminar courses on the topics of Cognition, Culture, and Gender and Human Memory.
Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso’s research interests include investigating false memory, implicit/explicit memory, applied research in cognition, and pedagogy. Presently, Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso serves as a George Scholar mentor to a senior undergraduate student who is researching the effects of misinformation on taste perception. A portion of their research was presented in November 2007 at the 48th annual meeting of the Psychonomic Society Long Beach, CA. In addition, Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso and her co-authors Dr. Gloria Marmolejo (Winona State University-Rochester) and Dr. Jeanette A. Altarriba (State University of New York at Albany), recently had their work on false memory in Spanish-English bilinguals accepted for publication in the American Journal of Psychology. The paper is currently “in press.”
As Chair of the Psychology Department, Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso is in charge of the daily operation of the department and is excited about the challenges of her new position. She enjoys working closely with faculty, staff, and students in her new role as Department Chair. She invites prospective and current students to contact her if they have an interest in psychology as a major, minor, or concentration.
Finally, Dr. Diliberto-Macaluso is a native of Tonawanda, NY (a suburb of Buffalo) and is an avid NHL hockey fan. In addition, she enjoys cooking & dining out at restaurants, traveling, reading, playing tennis, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
