Psychology Lab
The psychology laboratory is located on the third floor of the Cook Building, in room 313. The lab is equipped with many resources, including eight computers that are connected to the Berry network, which allows for fast internet connection and access to Galileo, a research engine. In addition to this wonderful research tool, psychology lab workers are available for tutoring, proofreading papers and critiquing APA format, conducting tutorials, assisting with graduate school resources, and arranging and advertising for speakers for our psychology colloquia. Twice a semester, the psychology lab workers also produce the “Inkblot,” the psychology newsletter for psychology majors and minors.
The computers in the psychology lab are outfitted with CD-DVD drives, which allow students to use tutorials and complete assignments given by professors. The computers in the lab also have CD-R drives that allow students to copy work to their own blank CDs. This medium has far more capacity and reliability than floppy disks. The lab computers are also equipped with SPSS, a statistical program that will be useful for Research Methods projects and any other project that involves statistics. In addition, the lab also possesses other equipment, such as a television, VCR, and tapes of past lectures that have taken place on campus.
The lab has a large collection of information concerning internships and job opportunities within and outside of the Rome/Floyd County area. The lab is a wonderful place to begin searching for graduate schools if you are a psychology major. The lab workers have organized and filed brochures and catalogs from many different graduate schools and according to geographical location and program. When coupled with other existing resources such as the Career Development Center, the psychology lab can be instrumental in helping you determine which graduate school or career in psychology is best for you.
