The Moon Gallery
For 32 years Dr. Tommy Mew has been the Director of the "Moon Gallery", which we consider the artistic center of the Berry Art Program. We present professional shows in the gallery. The shows come from the United States and many other parts of the world. The shows change every three weeks on average. Our gallery program is truly "international" in character.
We require all art majors concentrating in studio art to have a "Senior Thesis Exhibition". Each student prepares a body of work their senior year and has the gallery for a week for the show. They are not only responsible for the art, but are also responsible for the publicity and the opening reception. Students who are applying to graduate school produce a set of twenty professional quality slides of their works, and these slides constitute their potrfolio. The senior show represents the culmination of the student's career as a Berry art major.
In the spring we have our annual "Student Honors Show", consisting of work submitted by all of our art students. We invite a nationally known artist, critic, gallery owner, or curator to come to Berry to give a presentation, judge the show, and designate award winners. The visiting artist also meets with students individually to view and discuss their work.
The gallery is well equipped with track lighting, and provides approximately 125 feet of wall space, and 1600 square feet of floor space.
