Short Bio

DR. JULIA BARNES is Assistant Professor of Spanish. She holds degrees from Davidson College, Yale Divinity School, UNC-Chapel Hill, and most recently from the University of Georgia. Her research interests is on contemporary Spain with particular emphasis on women novelists, and her recent publications include an article on gender representations in San Manuel Bueno, mártir by Miguel de Unamuno, and on representations of the Spanish Civil War in Lucía Etxebarria’s Un milagro en equilibrio. Currently, Dr. Barnes is investigating the influence of Johann Jakob Bachofen’s theories of prehistoric matriarchy on several contemporary Spanish authors.
