“Upon graduating from Berry College with a degree in Government in 2006, David Bayne secured an internship at the Georgia state capitol with the Senate Budget and Evaluation Office (SBEO). He was soon thereafter hired to work full time as a program analyst, and he has maintained this position for the past three years.
As an analyst for SBEO, Bayne holds both budget and policy related responsibilities within the Georgia Senate. Bayne provides assistance and research to both staff committee groups and he also provides his subcommittee members with answers to any questions they might have. Providing analysis of various policy measures is part of his daily job.
Bayne credits Berry College, “especially the Government department” to being “beneficial to (his) work at the state capitol.” He says, “I was able to begin my job with a very good understanding of the political process due to the many discussions and conversations I had in my government classes with both my professors and my classmates. A good portion of the work that I do requires me to utilize the critical thinking and research skills that were sharpened and developed from many of the courses at took at the Evans School.” Bayne also credits his experiences in Model UN and SGA for preparing him to “review bills, follow parliamentary procedure, and even do some behind-the-scenes negotiating with my counterparts in the House Budget and the Governor's Budget offices.”
We in the Department of Government and International Studies commend David’s commitment to public service and wish him continued good fortune.”
