Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LCS)

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program provides members of the Berry College community with opportunities to learn about the Latin American-Caribbean region and its peoples through formal instruction, experiential learning, public events, and community outreach.

The mission of the LCS Program has become especially relevant in recent decades as relations between the United States and its Latin American and Caribbean neighbors have taken on increasing social, economic and political significance. One reason for this is the rapid growth of the Latino population in the United States. As the Latino community increases in size and diversity, businesses, government agencies, and other public and private institutions are scrambling to adjust to a rapidly evolving cultural landscape. An important goal of the LCS Program is to help students better understand and relate to this growing and dynamic community.

Students who are interested in learning more about the Latin American-Caribbean region and U.S. Latino communities should take a close look at Berry's Latin American and Caribbean Studies certificate program. The program is open to students of all majors and consists of 12 hours of course work complemented by special on-campus events, guest speakers, films, study-abroad opportunities and related internships.
