Latin American & Caribbean Studies (LCS)
The Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) program offers Berry students the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most diverse and fascinating regions. Latino immigration to the United States and the increasing importance of Latin America and the Caribbean globally mean that there is a growing need for persons with the skills and knowledge necessary for collaborating effectively with people from this region.
For a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, students must complete 18 hours of coursework, including “LCS 301: Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean” and “LCS 450: Seminar in Latin American and Caribbean Studies.” Additional hours may be completed by taking courses from affiliated disciplines. Students must also demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency in Spanish, French or any other Latin American or Caribbean language other than English. This requirement may be fulfilled either by passing a 200-level language course or through a language proficiency exam. Contact the program director for more information.
Students earning the LACS minor are strongly encouraged to study abroad in a Latin American or Caribbean country and/or carry out a LACS-related internship, either locally or internationally.
