Iwahashi Art Exhibit on Display
|
The Science Center is now the home of an exquisite exhibit of photographic art given to us by Mr. Takashi Iwahashi, Japan's foremost nature photographer. Many of the 77 large-scale panoramic prints from his collection, The Rockies: From Alaska to Mexico, are displayed inside the building. Previously, the collection toured the United States and was in the care of the Fernbank Museum from the late 1990s until the summer of 2006, when they were brought to Berry College's science center. "The Rockies" are among the more 100,000 photographs that Mr. Iwahashi captured on film during this four-year trek from 1988 to 1992, adventuring through all sorts of terrain and weather conditions, and covering more than 250,000 miles on his journey. |

| Dr. Bruce Conn, dean of the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. remarked that "we have waited four years to find the right material to display in our new building, and this is more than we could have hoped for." Importantly, this is the first major exhibit of the new Berry College Museum of Science and Natural History. The museum, which is still in its formative stages, was made possible by a gift in 2003 from alumnus Mr. Dewey Large. Mr. Iwahashi and members of his family and friends joined dignitaries, college administrators, and other guests for the dedication ceremony in the Science Center on May 11, 2006. |
