Degree Requirements

The growth of technology in our society presents greater needs for individuals with analytical skills and
experience in the development and use of technologies. Degree programs in the Department of Mathematics and
Computer Science prepare
students for a wide variety of careers requiring problem solving, logical reasoning and applications of
current technologies. For example, students who have majored in these mathematical sciences have found it
to be an excellent preparation for graduate studies in a variety of fields including engineering, law and
medicine. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers majors in mathematics and computer science.
Within the mathematics program, students may elect a concentration in mathematics education. All
programs lead to the Bachelor of Science degree.

Suggested Course of Study
A mathematics concentration requires a minimum of 43 semester hours of course work in
mathematics.
The minor in mathematics requires 19 hours of course work in mathematics with 9 of these hours
taken at the
300 level or above.
Math Education

A mathematics education concentration requires a minimum of 40 semester hours of mathematics course work.
Computer Science
Requirements
Suggested Course of Study
This major requires a minimum of 43 hours of course work in computer science as well as practical
work experience in the field. The minor requires
25 semester hours of course work in computer science with 9
of these hours taken at the 300 level or above.
