Roatan: Summer 2010 - Day 8

Day Eight: Tropical Storm Alex
Today everyone was reminded that we were in the tropics during hurricane season. Tropical storm Alex rolled in last night with plenty of rain and winds around 30 mph. While it was merely an inconvenience here at the marine lab, it did cause some 2+ ft waves out on the ocean, so all diving and other water sports were cancelled for the day (the pool was still open however). Instead of diving, we made use of the down time to get ahead on the lectures and doing a little studying for the upcoming final exams. Jennifer (education director for RIMS) gave two lectures, one on sea turtle biology and the other on dolphins. The dolphin lecture was the first of two lectures to prepare the students for their half-day dolphin encounter which will be done later in the week. The weather forecast calls for a partly cloudy day with a slight breeze tomorrow, so hopefully we can get back to our normal routine.
