Roatan: Summer 2012 - Day 3

Day Three: Maya Key
Today we did two great dives on the other side of the island and got to visit Maya Key. We started out with a dive on the south shore of the island where the students we able to see a number of new species of corals. We then headed over to a private island owned by the resort for lunch and a tour of the animal rehab facility. The facility hosted a lot of native birds, cats, and monkeys, all of which the student were able to see up close. There was also a replica of some Maya ruins on the island, which give the group a taste of the past. The second dive was off the West End wall and the area was teaming with sea life. After a good dinner, the students learned about competition amongst different species of coral.
