Roatan: Summer 2012 - Day 6

Day Six: First night dive
We started the day off diving on Berry’s reef, well that was at least the name of it. On our first dive we were able to go to our deepest depth yet (70 feet) and then we performed a coral watch survey. On our second dive we observed the local fish fauna and gathered ideas for our upcoming group projects. Lunch today was a special cookout on the Anthony’s key where we were joined by Andrzej, a coral reef biologist with the Bay Island Marine Lab, who works on the lionfish invasion in the Caribbean. After a morning of diving, we had the whole afternoon off, most of which was spent around the pool. The afternoon ended with an entrancing lecture about our upcoming mangrove snorkel trip. Finally, to complete our day, we went on our first night dive which was amazing. We were able to see many different species that are not typically out during the day, along with a fantastic bioluminescent light show put on by the Ostracods (a small crustacean).
