Roatan: Summer 2012 - Day 9

Day Nine: Dolphin Encounter
Our day started off with a record-breaking (for us at least) 110 ft dive to the El Aquila wreck. We journeyed through the sunken ship, took a picture on the bow, and fed the huge, aggressive groupers. Afterwards, we went straight to the dolphin pen for our hour-long dolphin encounter. We were each assigned to a different dolphin, and we got to rub on him or her then watch it show off for us. After the session with the trainer, we got to snorkel around with them for another 30 minutes. It was an amazing experience and one we won’t forget. On our afternoon dive, we did a roving fish survey and we were able to complete the first of two REEF fish surveys. Once we complete two surveys, we will become certified level II fish observers. We had some time off after the dive to hang out by the pool until our enchanting lecture about fish. It was another great day down in Roatan, Honduras. Stay tuned!
