National Recognitions
Selected by Berry College during the 2006-2007 academic year for inclusion in the prestigious Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges are a number of students who have engaged themselves in majors offered within the mathematical and natural sciences. Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence. Justine Nickerson, chemistry major, has been awarded the Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence for the 2007-2008 academic year. Justine has accepted a scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she will pursue a major in chemistry. Only 100 students nationwide receive the Phi Kappa Phi fellowships or awards each year. This is the third time in as many years that one of our graduating seniors has been awarded the Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence.

"Jeopardy" Competition. In March 2007, Melissa Cook and Paul Tougaw participated with Matt Evans and Michael Lomuscio in a Mathematics “Jeopardy” competition during the Mathematical Association of America meeting. The Berry team finished third.

Regional Recognitions

ACS Recognition. Carolyn (Carly) Anderson received Honorable Mention and a year’s membership to the American Chemical Society for her presentation at the Georgia Section Meeting of the American Chemical Society.

Problem-solving Competition. Mathematics students, Daniel Murphree, Paula Tougaw, and Melissa Cook earned second place in a problem-solving competition at Mercer University’s Undergraduate Research in Mathematics Conference in February 2007.
