Travelled
to Kenya, Summer 2011
When I took this picture, I was standing on the
equator in the Kenyan countryside. I had been on a summer mission trip, and my
group stopped here to take pictures on our way back to the airport. When this
truck drove by us, several of the kids on board yelled for our attention,
something that happened often to a white person in Africa. I was surprised to
see so many people crammed into the back of a truck. When I saw their smiling
faces I took a few shots. While I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, they are
bundled up in colorful hats and sweaters.
Eighty degrees is warm to me, but cold to them. The girl in the middle
radiates the joy that many of the Kenyans showed me. Although many of them live
in extreme poverty, their attitudes would not show it. This picture always
reminds me of the infectious love and happiness the Kenyans have.
