Travelled
to Guatemala for medical service, Summer 2012
The “Cerro De La Cruz” or “Hill of the Cross” which
overlooks the city of Antigua is one of the greatest sights Guatemala has to offer.
La Antigua was once the capital of Guatemala until the government decided to
move it to Guatemala City for fear of the volcanoes that surrounded Antigua
(such as Volcan de Agua seen in the background). Since then, the city’s
politicians have strived to maintain the city’s heritage and natural beauty.
The buildings in the background can be seen painted with their traditional
colors—yellow, white, red, and orange. Antigua was my favorite stop on this
trip due to its rich cultural history.
It definitely held true to its name, which means “Old” or “Ancient.”
