What Berry Students Say

Cordoba, Argentina

Spanish Studies Abroad at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba

Location
Set among the foothills of the Sierras Chicas mountains about 400 miles from Buenos Aires, Cordoba has long been an important destination in Argentina. Founded in 1573, the city now has 1.3 million residents, making it Argentina's second largest city. Cordoba's long history and thriving city center make it a very attractive destination. Visitors can shop in the busy commercial areas, view colonial architecture in the historic Manzana Jesuitica, or enjoy outdoor activities in the nearby mountains, lakes and rivers. Home to over 130,000 students, Cordoba has developed a well deserved reputation as an exciting but relaxed atmosphere for intellectual pursuits. Spanish Studies Abroad is based at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC), a descendant of the oldest university in Argentina.

Program of Study
Students are required to take a minimum of 12 credits, in addition to a one month Intensive Language and Culture Session of 4 credits, which prepares students for study at Cordoba. At UNC, Spanish Studies Abroad works with the Programa de Español y Cultura Latinoamericana (PECLA), which offers a broad variety of courses in language, literature, history, and culture. In addition, students choose one or two regular National University of Cordoba courses, taught by Argentine professors. Students synthesize their cultural experience through a 1 credit Cultural Realities course. Internships are also available for qualified students.

Living Arrangements
During the one-month intensive program, students live with an Argentine family near the school. For the remainder of the program, students may continue to live with a family or move into university housing. Homestays include full room and board, laundry once a week, and one student per home. University residences include double-occupancy rooms, two meals per day on weekdays, internet connections, and use of laundry, sports, and recreational facilities.

Costs
For semester study, students pay the Berry College semester tuition. For summer study, students pay the entire program amount and any overage for Berry tuition.  See estimated budgets in the right-hand box.  Prices are subject to change, and other fees may apply.

Eligibility
Students are required to have a 3.0 GPA in Spanish coursework. It is recommended that students complete at least one 300-level Berry Spanish course before participating in this program.
