Berry College / Fundacion Progreso Guanacaste
Summer International Program in Costa Rica
In partnership with the Fundacion Progreso Guanacaste, Berry College offers a seven-week program in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Students will primarily be working as English-language tutors in primary schools in the canton of Santa Cruz. Monday through Friday Berry students assist classroom teachers at several grade levels. At its core the program is about working with the schools to help the students get ahead in their study of English. Participating Berry students will live with families in the towns, many of them remote, where they will be working in the schools.
In Costa Rica, students also take SPA 305 with the Berry College faculty member directing the program. Students applying to the program will need to be proficient in Spanish at the intermediate level (SPA 200 or equal proficiency). This is an immersion experience that will give you the opportunity to serve in an important capacity, to learn about Costa Rican culture and to greatly enhance your Spanish language skills. Roundtrip airfare from Atlanta, food, lodging, transportation in Costa Rica and a small stipend will be provided by the Fundacion Progreso Guanacaste.
