Location
Costa Rica is known for its rainforests and beaches, mountains and volcanoes, and coffee and banana plantations throughout the countryside. San José, the capital of Costa Rica, is located in the central valley and is the transportation hub of the country. The city boasts some excellent museums, vibrant markets and a beautiful climate. Noteworthy museums include the Museo Nacional, Museo del Oro Precolombino, and the Museo de Jade. The Teatro Nacional hosts operas, plays, ballets and symphonies throughout the year.
Program of Study
Semester abroad students take classes at the Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT). Courses are offered in a variety of areas, including Spanish language, business, law, engineering and humanities. There are approximately 1500 Costa Ricans and 100 international students enrolled each semester. Study abroad students can take a mixture of classes with native Costa Rican students along with general elective or Spanish courses.
Living Arrangements
Students are provided room and board with a host family. Weekly laundry service is also provided.
Costs
Students pay Berry College semester tuition. Current room and board costs are $1500, and insurance costs $15/week. Prices are subject to change, and other fees may apply.
Eligibility
Students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and be advanced students who have completed at least 4 semesters or the equivalent of college level Spanish.
Additional Information
Students will need a visa to study in Costa Rica for a semester. Resident directors assist students in applying for the visa.
