On my first day in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, I took a bus tour of the city and happened to snap this photo. It shows a 19th century building on Grey Street reflected in the massively modern windows of a Boots Pharmacy, with Grey’s Monument (for Earl Grey himself) looming in the background. This image shows how growth and progress can occur while still respecting history, culture, and heritage. Newcastle is filled with these scenes, as is most of England. A combination of the old and the new is what, in my opinion, culture is all about. The old shapes the new and the new interprets the old.
