The University population is more than 30 percent non-white, while 98 percent of the students speak English as their first or second language. Students study from July-November or February-June and can choose from subjects in literature, animal science, Afrikaans, political science and more. Students may also complete a service learning program.

Residence hall living is a single room with a private bathroom as well as kitchen and living room shared with three other students. Homestay students are given equivalent funds to purchase their own meals either at the University, a grocery store or in their hosts' home.
