Berry Student in Class

There are currently 43
International students  enrolled at Berry representing 17 countries.

Admission Requirements

  1. Completion of the equivalent of 12 years of U.S. elementary and secondary schools with scores above the 50 percentile in college preparatory subjects. (Check with the U.S. Consulate near you for requirements for specific countries.) You should arrange for Berry College to receive official or certified copies of your academic records throughout your attendance at secondary school, college, university, and professional institutions of learning. Records should list the subjects studied and the grade, mark or other evidence that each individual subject was completed to the satisfaction of the authorities in charge. Records should also include copies of any diplomas, degrees, or other certificates received. All records should be in English. If the language of the records is not English, a certified literal translation should be included with the original document. Since certificates and records filed for examination are not returned, you should send certified/official attested photocopies if the documents in question cannot be easily replaced. Uncertified photo copies alone are not acceptable.
  2. Demonstrated ability on standardized tests. Applicants from English speaking countries must submit scores on the SAT portion of the College Entrance Examination Board Test (CEEB). Applicants from non-English speaking countries should submit scores (550 or above) on the written “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) in addition to their country’s school certificate (such as the G.C.E.), the ACT and the SAT.
  3. A statement of good health.
  4. Certification of sufficient finances to cover all expenses at Berry College.

Application Procedure
If after reading carefully this brochure, you feel you meet ALL the entrance requirements and wish to apply, these steps should be followed.

  1. Mail both the application form and the supplemental form for international students along with a $50US application fee.
  2. For undergraduate admission, arrange with CEEB to send the SAT and/or TOEFL scores directly to the Admissions Office.
  3. Request that certified copies of your secondary school grades (and college, if any) and a certified copy of your school’s certificate or exam be sent to the Admissions Office from your school.

Transfers
Transfer credit from accredited colleges may be applied toward a degree at Berry. Likewise, college credit from Berry College should be recognized by other leading colleges and universities.

Financial Aid
Berry College has no scholarships set aside specifically for international students, and normally students from other countries should arrange to finance all four years of undergraduate study. Financial Aid is limited in the amount for international students even under the most favorable situation. Letters of admission or replies to correspondence should not be considered
assurance of financial aid. No student should count on work for financial aid.

Guidance Service
The international student has special opportunities at Berry because of the closer personal relationship between students, faculty, and staff members. An International Student Advisor is available to assist with questions and problems.

Housing
Students live two in a room in attractive, comfortable, well-built and adequately equipped residence halls. Each room is equipped with single beds, desks, chairs, dresser or chest, and a mirror. The student must supply a pillow, sheets, pillow cases, bed spreads, blankets, and towels as well as necessary personal articles. The residence halls are not open during the
Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Usually, the student is invited home with a roommate or a friend or may stay for a fee at the Villa International Atlanta, 1749 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta (tel. 404-633-6783), www.villa-atl.org.

Health Service
International students are required to purchase an accident and sickness hospitalization insurance plan. You will be billed for a Berry group insurance plan unless you bring proof of having adequate current insurance coverage.

Before entering Berry College, all students must have completed the following immunizations; smallpox, typhoid, polio, tetanus toxoid, and mumps, measles, and rubella. Proof of immunizations is required. Attention also should be given to dental work, eye examinations and other similar matters before arriving on campus.

The college provides limited medical care on the campus. Included in the tuition are all services rendered by the on-campus clinic.

Visa
After the student has been accepted for admission to the college and has deposited the first year’s charges, we will send Form I-20 to enable you to request a visa from the U.S. Consulate.

Travel
Travel tickets should be purchased with Rome, Georgia, as the destination. You may secure air tickets to Atlanta, Georgia. If you arrive in Georgia prior to the opening of our residence halls, you should make arrangements to stay at Villa International Atlanta, 1749 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta (tel. 404-633-6783). Be sure to have reservations before you arrive in the U.S.
When you have made your travel arrangements, notify the Office of Admissions by airmail. We will provide you with information about travel options from the airport in Atlanta to campus.

Extracurricular Activities
Students from abroad are urged to bring with them pictures, traditional national clothing and other typical examples of the distinctive arts and cultures of their countries as they may be available. There may be opportunity for speaking engagements, in addition to participation in Berry’s annual “International Fair.”

Berry has a well-rounded program of activities including musical and dramatic productions, intramural and intercollegiate athletics, a guest artist series, student government, clubs (including an international students club), and other diversified cultural and entertainment activities.

Miscellaneous Items
All correspondence regarding admission and all credentials should be addressed to: Office of Admissions, Berry College, Mount Berry, Georgia 30149-0159 USA. Each letter and envelope should bear the name and return address of the applicant.

Admissions correspondence is sent by airmail, but heavy materials will be sent by surface mail unless full air postage charges are prepaid with international postage coupons to cover the cost: $5 for surface mail and $15 for airmail. Catalogs are usually available for reference at most U.S. Embassies or Consular Offices and online at www.berry.edu.

The admissions status of an applicant cannot be determined until all official credentials, including TOEFL scores and financial arrangements, have been received from the student. Applications should be filed at least six months prior to the date of desired admissions.

Transcripts from schools must be signed by a school official or official translator and carry the appropriate seal (unsigned photostats are not acceptable). These official records from the school should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions.
