Degree Earned: Bachelor of Arts in Communication- Journalism, 2003Hello and thank you for your interest in Berry! As a 2003 graduate of Berry, I love talking about my alma mater. I’ve known since I was 11 years old that I would attend Berry College. I never applied to another institution, I never considered another institution and I’ve never once regretted my decision.
I’m originally from Decatur, Georgia, but I made Berry College and Rome, Georgia, my home shortly after graduating from Berry. I love being involved with the Berry community. In my time as a student, I studied Communication-Journalism and Anthropology. I was involved with Ramifications (Berry’s art and literary magazine) as a staff member and editor, the Campus Carrier (our student newspaper) as a staff writer, several other on-campus jobs and various volunteer projects, and I served as a resident assistant in the Ford residence halls my junior and senior years. I was certainly never bored and I never experienced a shortage of opportunities and challenges in academic and student life at Berry!
I love Berry because of its balanced approach to life: a balance of fun and responsibility; a balance of beauty and academic rigor; a balance of high expectations and unparalleled encouragement and support; a balance of self-improvement and service to others; and a balance of spiritual growth and free will. This balance is provided through our belief in the education of the Head, the Heart and the Hands. Our founder, Martha Berry, believed in the education of the whole person through a balance of well-rounded accomplishments and integration of the whole self. We still believe in this, and it couldn’t ring more true and invaluable than it does in today’s fast-paced, high-competition world. I wouldn’t trade my time at Berry for anything.
