History of the Alumni Center
In 1988 Mitch Elrod (37H, 41C), former Alumni Association president, best articulated the need for a Berry Alumni Center during a planning meeting of the Alumni Council. At that time, a group of alumni volunteers began the task of finding an appropriate home for a center and the funding to build one. In 1998, after a decade of discussions, the idea for an alumni center became a reality through a wonderful leadership gift from the estate of Julius and Kathryn Elrod. Additional major gifts from Bob and Joann (49H) Del Re and Larry (57c) and Amelia (57c) Eidson helped to make the Alumni Center a reality.
In the summer of 1999 the decision was made to place the Alumni Center in the historic Ford building complex. More than 50 alumni volunteers assisted with the planning of the alumni center through various subcommittees. The Alumni Center opened on Jan. 11, 2003.
