Achievements: Jack Jones graduated from Berry in 1957 with a B.S. degree but has continued his education through graduate level and continuous education courses at Florida State University, University of Alabama, and Auburn University, as well as professional training Jones has received through NASA and other government agencies. He began his career in the US Army Ballistic Missile Agency in 1957 and transferred to NASA in 1960, where he remained until his retirement. In his career, Jones has been involved with various space flights and missions, notably Apollo Saturn launches, the European Space Agency’s Spacelab project, and the Astro-1 Astrophysics Space Shuttle mission, just to name a few. He was also involved in the redesign of the International Space Station and the design of several components of the Space Station. Jack Jones has also been the recipient of several prestigious awards over the years, including the NASA Medal for Outstanding Leadership, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal and the Aerospace Laurels Award. Jack Jones’ community involvement includes his service as a Guardian ad Litem, tutoring disadvantaged children, serving on the Lake Park Commission and on the Buncombe County, NC Aging Coordinating Consortium Steering Committee. He is also a member of Men’s Garden Club of Asheville and has been involved in numerous other community programs and organizations.
