Council Bylaws - Carpet Capital Chapter

CONSTITUTION FOR THE CARPET CAPITAL CHAPTER, BERRY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Article I – Name and Affiliation

The name of this organization shall be the Carpet Capital Chapter of the Berry Alumni Association.  This organization is affiliated with the Alumni Association of Berry College.  

Article II – Purpose

 

The purpose of this club is:

  • To promote close fellowship among the alumni and the students of The Berry Schools.
  • To serve as an agency for the dissemination of information regarding the educational advantages and opportunities of Berry College.
  • To advance the interests of American education by evaluating and supporting the activities of Berry College toward the realization of their educational goals in every manner possible.
  • To establish and promote goals and club projects which tend to strengthen the ties between members, the chapter, our community and Berry College.

Article III – Membership

Section 1: Graduates of The Berry Schools and all other persons who attended Berry, who currently reside within the Whitfield-Murray County (Georgia) area are eligible for membership in this chapter.

Section 2: All spouses, former faculty and staff members and parents of Berry alumni or Berry students are eligible for associate membership in this chapter.

Article IV – Officers

 

The officers of this chapter shall consist of a President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer.  An associate member may not be elected President or Vice-President.

Section 1: The President shall be elected for a term of two years and cannot succeed himself unless moved from the office of Vice-President to fill the un-expired term of a President.  The President shall preside at all meetings of the membership.  The President shall be an ex-officio member of every committee.

Section 2: In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall perform the duties of the President.  If the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice-President shall serve the un-expired term.  The Vice-President shall serve as Chairperson of the Membership Committee and shall perform other such duties as may be assigned by the President.  The Vice-President can be re-elected.

Section 3: The Secretary shall keep minutes of all meetings of the Chapter, arrange for notices of all meetings and maintain official custody of the list of alumni within the area.  (This list shall not be released for political or commercial purposes.)  The Secretary shall send regular reports of chapter activities to the Berry Alumni Office.  The Secretary can be re-elected.

Section 4: The Treasurer shall supervise all receipts and expenditures and shall be in charge of financial arrangements for all meetings, programs and other events.  The Treasurer can be re-elected. 

Article V – Chapter Meetings

There shall be an annual meeting for the installation of officers to be held in August of each year.  There shall be such other regular meetings that the Officers may deem necessary or desirable. 

Article VI – Committees

The President shall appoint all standing committees.  Officers shall be chairpersons of standing committees.  The President, with the approval of the Officers, shall also appoint such additional committees as the interests of the chapter may require and prescribe the duties of such committees.

Article VII – Elections

 

The President shall appoint a nominating committee, which will have the duty of submitting the names of candidates to the membership for election to the various positions at the annual meeting.  The Officers of the chapter shall be elected each year as prescribed above by majority vote.  They shall hold office until their successors have been duly elected and installed. 

Article VIII - Amendments

This constitution may be amended by majority vote of all members present at any duly called meeting of the chapter membership.  The officers may adopt by-laws as it deems necessary.  The membership and the Berry Alumni Office shall be informed immediately of such adoption. 

Article IX – Adoption 

 

This constitution may be officially adopted upon its approval by a majority vote of the members of the chapter in attendance at any regular or called meeting and upon its acceptance by the BAC.
