Chapter Minutes - Carpet Capital Chapter

The executive committee met at the home of Geraldine and Johnny Bridges for lunch and a meeting to plan for the upcoming year. Those in attendance were: Geraldine and Johnny Bridges, co-presidents, Bernice and Lenard Whaley, past co-presidents, Marlene Schneider, treasurer, Mickey Kenemer, secretary, and Doris and Harlan Chapman, past co-presidents.
The following meetings were tentatively scheduled and arrangements will be made to reserve the meeting locations and the programs.

Berry: Then and Now
Note: Betty Davis attended school at Possum Trot and Charles Acree attended Berry College; both knew Miss Berry and will talk about Berry during the 1930’s. We will also attempt to get Beth Cavender and Melissa Stanley, recipients of the Carpet Capital Chapter’s scholarships in 2006, to join us along with Melissa Pierce the 2007 Miss Berry.
Service Projects for this meeting include contributions for the chapter expenses and the Clay Kenemer scholarship fund.
Meetings are scheduled for October 4, 2007 and February 7, 2008 and will be held at Kelly’s Restaurant located at 1700 South Dixie Highway. The picnic and the meeting scheduled for August 9, 2008 will be in the meeting room at Walnut Square Mall.
NOTE: The executive committee suggested that Carolyn Smith and Dr. Briggs could be contacted about presenting programs for the October and February meetings. It was further suggested that since Geraldine and Johnny Bridges are moving out of the area and will resign as co-presidents at the August 11, 2007 meeting, these suggestions should be made to the new president and vice-president for their consideration. Other members of the executive committee were present at the planning meeting on July 11 and will continue to serve in their current capacity.
Article IV, Section 2 of the Constitution for the Carpet Capital Chapter, Berry Alumni Association contains the following; “If the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice-President shall serve the un-expired term.” Jesse Jones is currently Vice-President.
Article IV, Section 1 in the Bylaws, Carpet Capital Chapter Berry Alumni Association contains the following: “All officers shall comprise the Executive Committee and shall have the authority to appoint officers for unexpired terms when no other bylaw is applicable.” Carolyn Smith was contacted and agreed to serve as Vice-President until the end of the current officer’s tenure.
