Welcome New Faces

During the month of June, Berry welcomed hundreds of new freshmen and transfer students to the campus at the Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) sessions.

The students and their parents filled the campus each week to take their first steps into college life. SOAR leaders, who are current Berry students, answered tough questions about college, conducted icebreaker games and tried to give the new students an idea of what Berry is like.

The parents learned about financial aid, what to expect in the transition and what the college can do to help their child graduate from Berry with a degree.

Larissa Gaines, of Ringgold, Ga., will be an early childhood education major this fall and said she is looking forward to beginning her college career at Berry.

"I am so excited to start here," said Gaines, "I chose Berry because I used to come here in middle school for a band camp and I've always had this school on my mind."

Her father Randy Gaines shared her enthusiasm.

"It's a beautiful campus, it's pretty close to our home, and it's a religious-based college, not a big oversized college. We are excited for her to start," said Randy Gaines.

The students will return to campus for move-in days Aug. 21 and Aug. 24 and classes begin Aug. 26.
