Helping Hands

Nearly 600 Berry College students fanned out across Floyd County recently for the 14th Annual First-Year Service Day.

They were accompanied by 36 experienced Berry students who are first-year mentors, and 35 faculty and staff members who serve as first-year seminar instructors. While many colleges offer an optional service experience to new students, Berry is one of few institutions that require all new students to participate. First-Year Service Day gives students a chance to experience firsthand Berry’s motto: “Not to be ministered unto but to minister.”

Volunteers helped out at Habitat for Humanity, the Longleaf Pine Project, the Coosa River Basin Initiative and various schools in Rome and Floyd County just to name a few. Click here for media coverage of the day.
