Korean New Year Festivities

The Consul General of South Korea, Hae-jin Chun, recently celebrated the Korean New Year at Berry. Trustee Sunny Park and the Office of Advancement and International Programs hosted the 8th annual celebratory event in the Krannert Spruill Ballroom on Feb. 10. The New Year, or Sol, celebrates the first day of the first month of the lunar year.

Students and other guests sampled Korean food and enjoyed festive music with Korean folk dancing and other customs. Berry students from the South Korea study abroad program also spoke about their reflections.

During the celebration, the Consul gave a speech about the relationship between the United States and Korea, as well as the Free Trade Agreement currently in discussion in Congress. Chun has been a part of Korean and U.S. diplomacy for many years. He has been a diplomatic advisor for foreign relation and trade, international ambassador, minister and counselor of foreign embassies.
