Korean New Year Festivities
The Consul General of South Korea, Hae-jin Chun,
recently celebrated the Korean New Year at Berry. Trustee Sunny Park and
the Office of Advancement and International Programs hosted the 8th
annual celebratory event in the Krannert Spruill Ballroom on Feb. 10.
The New Year, or Sol, celebrates the first day of the first month of the
lunar year.
Students and other guests sampled Korean food and
enjoyed festive music with Korean folk dancing and other customs. Berry
students from the South Korea study abroad program also spoke about
their reflections.
During the celebration, the Consul gave a speech
about the relationship between the United States and Korea, as well as
the Free Trade Agreement currently in discussion in Congress. Chun has
been a part of Korean and U.S. diplomacy for many years. He has been a
diplomatic advisor for foreign relation and trade, international
ambassador, minister and counselor of foreign embassies.
