SOAR Welcomes Incoming Freshman
More than 550 incoming freshmen were greeted with enthusiasm at SOAR, Berry College's summer orientation program.
Berry hosted five two-day orientation sessions for incoming students during the month of June. A sixth session will be held in August for students who could not attend the earlier sessions.
On hand to greet the new arrivals was a talented group of student orientation leaders headed by senior Ali Dullen. Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) leaders provided both information and a friendly attitude as the new students and their parents got a whirlwind tour of Berry life.
Dullen said SOAR is important for incoming freshmen because it gives them the opportunity to experience Berry firsthand.
“It’s really important for the students to feel at home at Berry,” she said. “I think we were able to accomplish that. We had an incredible team of SOAR leaders, and everything went tremendously well.”
Cindy Wood, parent of incoming freshman Nicole Wood, said she loved being at SOAR.
“The leaders were all very friendly and seemed genuine,” she said.
Incoming freshman Michael Harper said SOAR exceeded his expectations.
“It was not only informative, but it was entertaining as well,” he said.
SOAR marks the beginning of a two-step orientation process that helps new students bond with classmates and acclimate to college life. The second half of the process, Viking Venture, will take place just a few days before classes begin Aug. 22.
