Job Summary - Berry College is seeking a senior advancement officer for its current campaign. The campaign, with a preliminary goal of $100 million, will: 1) fuse academic preparation with career-building work experiences; 2) ensure opportunities for students to invest in their own success by providing work scholarships in support of their education and 3) upgrade campus facilities that will enrich the student experience. The senior advancement officer, a highly visible position at the college, will be an integral member of the Campaign and Leadership Giving team in the Office of Advancement. Reporting to the assistant vice president of campaign and leadership giving, this position cultivates interest in and conveys the priorities of the college, matches prospect interest to institutional needs, directly solicits individuals, manages volunteers, and provides stewardship after gifts are made. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of 125+ major gift donors and prospects that have the potential of contributing gifts of $25,000 or more. The senior advancement officer must be a self-starter, have a high level of energy and enjoy working in a fast paced and fun environment. The successful candidate must also be able to build trust quickly, be an excellent communicator, listen intentionally and earn the respect of potential donors. The senior advancement officer will be a creative thinker and will match donors’ needs with the strategic priorities of the college. A passion for the threefold mission of Berry College is essential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages relationships with approximately 125+ prospective and current donors. Cultivate these relationships in order to solicit gifts of $25,000 or more to support the priorities of the college. Completes 18+ face-to-face donor and prospect visits each month. Completes a fixed dollar amount (to be determined annually) of major gift solicitations each year. Manages and participates in all aspects of the gift cycle: Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors. Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers. Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure. Make solicitations when timing is appropriate. Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors. Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development and advancement staff, and other college representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for college-wide priorities. Plans strategically and monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful cultivation towards a gift. Recommends and assists with programming involving the president, vice president for college advancement, other vice presidents, and campaign volunteer leaders. Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts. Submits purposeful contact reports. Where appropriate, oversees the creation of proposals for funding to potential donors. Works collaboratively and strategically with the college president, other fundraising professionals, faculty, and other campus leaders. Offers prospect strategy counsel to the president, vice president, development and advancement staff who are managing other prospects.

Minimum Qualifications - Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments. Must be willing to travel. Bachelor’s degree. Successful experience in major gift fundraising preferred, but not required. Ability to understand the needs and interests of donors and prospects in order to develop relationships between them and the college. Interest in all aspects of a liberal arts education and a dedication to promoting the college’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, senior academic leaders, trustees, volunteers, and the advancement office team. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas. Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
