Event Description
Presenter Ruddi Nefid was born in Western Sumatra and there he studied Silat martial arts from two respected masters of the tradition. Ruddi earned a silver medal for his skills and currently teaches Silat here at Berry College.
Ruddi will do a multi-media lecture-demo on the history of silat, its styles, and four primary aspects. Additionally, he will discuss how the principles of silat impact the culture and lifestyle of indonesian people generally, and minangkabau people (west sumateranian people) particularly.
Dr. Jeffrey Lidke will show some short videos of several different silat, and will perform a little bit of the silat Satria Muda Indonesia.
