Classroom Performance
Systems (Clickers)
Berry College has chosen to
standardize on eInstruction's Classroom Performance System (CPS).
eInstruction Clicker System consists of: hardware (receiver and
clickers), software (free), and the eInstruction
website.
Q: What are clickers?
A: Classroom performance systems
(CPS) or clickers are a classroom instruction tool that can improve
student engagement and learning in the classroom.
Instructors can use clickers to:
- Present questions
throughout a lecture
- Give
students quizzes and tests
- Start a
discussion
- Take attendance
At any time during or after
the semester, instructors can generate a myriad reports.
For more information visit theclicker FAQ page.
Q: What do I need to do
to use clickers in my class?
A: Any faculty member who wants
to use clickers in a class should inform the bookstore in advance so
they can order enough clickers for the upcoming semester. ;
Students can use a clicker
that they use in a previous class, buy a clicker from a student who used
one in another class, or buy a new clicker from the bookstore. ;
A: Many students may be
familiar with clickers, but some students may not. We recommend that you
provide a brief introduction to clickers during the first class
session. ;
Q: Do I need to
change my syllabus?
If you are using CPS in
your course, we recommend that you put information in your syllabus to
inform students that you are using clickers. You may want to include
wording similar to the following in the course syllabus:
A classroom response system (aka
clickers) will be used in _______ course. You are required to obtain a
clicker for this course (just like a required text). Use of your
clicker is part of the course participation requirement. Students may
not use other students' clickers; doing so is a violation of academic
integrity.;
You must purchase
and register your clicker before the _____ class meeting, and bring
your clicker to class on that day prepared to participate. For our
class, you will register your clicker via (www.einstruction.com). The
class key for registration is _______.
Q: What about the
classroom computer?
A: Email CIT and let us know what
classroom the class is in, and we will install the software on the
classroom computer. If you plan on storing data on the classroom
computer, please follow basic security practices.;
