Holdings of the Berry College Archives include the Archives Collections, Berry Collection, and Special Collections Books.

Archives Collections

Berry Record Groups: The materials that comprise the collection of record groups include the files of the offices of the Berry Schools and Berry College. These files contain reports, correspondence and other materials documenting the daily activities of the various offices from 1902 to the present. Record groups of particular note include the Office of the President, Office of the Principal, Office of the Dean of Women and Berry College Councils and Committees. Martha Berry Collection: The Martha Berry Collection contains the office correspondence of Martha Berry from 1902 to 1942. In addition, the collection contains speeches and writings by Miss Berry and clippings related to her life and accomplishments. A complete guide to the papers is available.

Berry Collection

Audiovisual Materials: Contained within the overall heading of audiovisual materials are sound recordings, films and video materials. Materials are arranged by accession number and access is available via a database within the archives.

Books: The Berry Book Collection consists of monographs pertaining to Berry history and Martha Berry, monographic works published by Berry College (including catalogs, handbooks, and yearbooks) and monographs published by Berry faculty, staff and alumni. All of the materials within this collection are accessible via the library's catalog.

Faculty Publications: In addition to the monographic publications of faculty members, the archives holds copies of articles written by Berry faculty. The archives depends on faculty submission of these articles; therefore, the collection is not comprehensive. A listing of these publications is available.

Glass Slides/Negatives: The archives' collection of glass slides and negatives represents some of the oldest images of life at the Berry Schools. The materials are fragile and access to this collection is restricted.

Maps & Blueprints: The archives houses a small collection of maps of the campus and the Rome Area in addition to blueprints of Berry buildings. Also included in this collection are drawings for furniture designed by Franklin Gottshall and other drawings from the industrial classes of the early years of the school. Of particular note among the blueprints within the collection are the plans for the 1927-1930 remodeling of Oak Hill and Robert Cridland's planting plans for the Oak Hill grounds.

Photographs: The Berry Collection contains approximately 25,000 photographs pertaining to the history and development of Berry College, affiliate groups of the college and the Berry family. The photographs are arranged by subject and are accessible via a database within the archives.

Postcards: The postcards within the Berry Collection pictorially represent Berry 's development from the early years of the Mount Berry School for Boys and the Martha Berry School for Girls to the present growth of Berry College.

Scrapbooks: The Berry Scrapbook Collection consists of scrapbooks prepared and donated by individual Berry students, student organizations, faculty organizations and alumni. The scrapbooks contain both photographs and ephemeral material.

Serials: The serials in the Berry Collection consist of publications produced in serial format by Berry College. Items span the years 1904 to the present. A complete listing of Berry Collection serials is available.

Vertical File: The vertical file contains items that are ephemeral in nature, such as brochures, programs, newspaper clippings and magazine articles pertaining to Berry College and its history. In addition, genealogical material related to the Berry family is included in the collection. The materials within this collection are arranged by subject and by the accession number within each subject.

Special Collections Books

Special Collections Books: The special collection of books includes rare books pulled from the circulating collection, materials donated to the archives that do not fall into one of the categories of the Berry Book Collection and monographs written by speakers and other visitors to the college. The collection includes books written by authors featured in the Southern Women Writers' Conference; a conference hosted by Berry College every other year. Access to this collection is available via the library's catalog.
