Record Group 9: Berry Faculty and Staff

Description: A portion of this collection is correspondence from various members of the Berry College Faculty and Staff. Each faculty and staff member represented has one folder of correspondence unless otherwise noted. The correspondence written by or related to O. C. Skinner, Industrial Manager at the Berry Schools from 1924-1948, and Moss Lee Hackett Wright, an instructor at the Berry Schools between 1932 and 1942, are separated into a single box. This box contains multiple folders of material for Skinner and Wright. Skinner's material contains letters of recommendation for Skinner, inspirational writings, poetry, and newspaper clippings. This series also contains miscellaneous biographical information about Mr. Skinner. Materials relating to Ms. Wright consist of correspondence, biographical information, newspaper clippings, school programs, and supporting materials for an honorary doctorate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Materials relating to M. Gordon Keown, prior to his position as Acting Director of the Berry Schools, have also been segmented into their own box. Mr. Keown graduated from the Berry Schools in 1905, and started his career at Berry in the business office as an assistant. Mr. Keown became Berry's Postmaster in 1927 and stayed in this position until Martha Berry's death in 1942. Mr. Keown served as Acting Director from 1942 – 1944. After resigning this post in 1944, he went back to the Postmaster's position which he held until 1948.
