Organizational Information: The Berry Women's Club was founded on May 23, 1968 . Article II of the Berry Women's Club Constitution states its purpose as “to bring together the women of Berry College and Berry Academy providing opportunity for intellectual, cultural and social activities; and in any way possible to further the interests of Berry College and Berry Academy.” In Article III of the Club's Constitution eligible members are identified as “the wife of any faculty member, chief official or administrative staff member; the hostess (not a student) of any faculty member, chief official or administrative staff member; any woman faculty member, chief official or administrative staff member; residence hall house directors; and guest cottage hostesses.” Honorary membership consisted of wives of members of the Board of Trustee; widows of Berry personnel who met the aforementioned eligibility requirements; and retirees, or the wives of retirees, who met the eligibility requirements.
The Berry Women's Club was involved in two notable projects in 1977 commemorating the Berry Schools' 75th anniversary. The first project was the publication of a book titled Berry Trails. This book outlines the history of the campus's many buildings and landmarks. Berry Trails was updated and republished in 1987 and 2001. All three issues are available in the Berry College Archives. The second project conducted by the club during this year was the creation of an historical quilt which is currently on display at the Berry College Memorial Library.
Description: The collection contains the club yearbooks since the founding of the Berry Women's Club, although it is missing the yearbooks for 1971-1975 and 1978-1980. The collection also contains the documents and manuscripts related to the publication of Berry Trails, and it contains documentation regarding the creation of the quilt which was presented to the Berry Schools by the Berry Women's Club on February 21, 1977. Items include descriptions of the quilt squares, correspondence, color guides, quilt kits, sketches, and fabric samples.
The last portion of the collection includes two scrapbooks from 1969-71 and 1971-73; one folder of miscellaneous correspondence (1976-77), one budget report (1968) and president elect's report (1968), an incomplete set of Berry Women's Club Newsletter, and four newspaper clippings from the Rome News-Tribune discussing various club activities.
One photograph was removed from the collection and is housed in the Berry College Archives Photograph Collection.
