Organizational Information: Faculty Assembly, formerly called Faculty Council, is an organization whose members consist of all full-time college employees with faculty status. The purpose of the organization is to enable the entire faculty to participate in the formulation of policies or plans that affect the academic programs of the college or other matters of concern to the faculty as a whole. Faculty Assembly has the power to study, discuss and make recommendations which will be forwarded to the Academic Council for consideration and to the President for information. Faculty Assembly designates selected faculty representatives to serve on committees appointed by the President.
Faculty Council was disbanded at the end of the 1994-95 school year and was re-instituted as Faculty Assembly in 1998. Prior to the formal organization of Faculty Council, these meetings were referred to as Faculty Meeting or Teacher Meeting.

Description: This collection reflects the changing environment for faculty at Berry, as well as issues relevant to the development of the school and the faculty. The collection contains minutes, committee reports, correspondence, and other documentation of the activities of Berry College Faculty Assembly (formerly Faculty Council). In addition, minutes of Faculty Colloquium are included. Faculty Colloquium is a forum in which issues raised in Faculty Assembly are further discussed without the presence of administration. Minutes are taken at these meetings but no attributions of comments made during the meeting occur. Box Four contains minutes, agendas, discursive notes, and reports generated from the most current Faculty Assembly meetings.

Materials generated by subcommittees of Faculty Assembly, as well as ad hoc committees are included in the collection. Committees represented in the Faculty Council minutes include: Academic Affairs, Faculty Relations, Welfare and Benefits, and Constitution and By-laws. Several ad hoc committees are also represented through reports given at the meetings. In Box One, two sub-committees formed from the Faculty Meetings are represented. These two committees are the Objectives Committee and the Faculty Council on the Berry Schools Program.

Original order was not fully maintained by the processor. Boxes One through Four of the collection contain minutes and committee reports arranged chronologically. Some committee reports represented in the minutes are missing. Box One houses documents pertinent to Teachers Meetings held in 1916-17 and Faculty Meetings, 1945-55. The remainder of the collection, Boxes Five through Ten, contain correspondence and subject files relating to Faculty Council/Faculty Assembly. These files are arranged chronological, then alphabetical according to file folder label.

The minutes in the first three folders of Box Three are arranged different than the other minutes in the collection. They contain the minutes, correspondence, and other documents pertinent to the meeting of the Faculty Council held on the particular date noted on the file folder label.

There are no minutes in this collection for the following years: 1952-53, 1977-78, 1979-80, 1981-82, 1982-83, and 1989-90. The Archives houses bound copies of Faculty Council minutes for the years 1967-95 which are not part of this collection. Minutes missing from this collection can be found in these bound volumes.
