Guidelines for Ordering Materials
Faculty at Berry College are encouraged to take an active role in the development of the library's collection. Working together, librarians and classroom faculty build a collection that serves the college's teaching and research needs.
Although the library does not have subject specialists, an informal liaison system between librarians and academic departments is in place to foster systematic communication and sharing of information regarding curricular and collection development needs.
Supplementary acquisitions funds are available for new tenure track faculty members to select materials for the library in support of teaching and research. To arrange for these acquisitions please contact the Library Director, Sherre Harrington (sharrington@berry.edu, 706-236-2285).
How to Place Orders:
You may use one of four methods to send book requests to the library:
- E-mail Jenny Kleine, Technical Services Acquisitions Assistant at jkleine@berry.edu
- Use the On-line Order Form on the Memorial Library home page.
- Publishers' catalogs, blurbs, or brochures may be used for orders as well. In some cases, catalogs must be included with the order to receive a discount or take advantage of dated sales offers. Please circle titles requested; attach a note or post-it to large catalogs, e.g., "see pp. 72, 82." If you are submitting photocopied pages from catalogs, make sure name of publisher/catalog shows in header or footer. If possible, prioritize all requests, as budget restrictions may apply to certain titles.
To avoid duplication, please check the library's on-line catalog, before submitting requests.
Please list author, title, publisher, date, cost, and ISBN when available. Choice cards (index card reprints from Choice, an academic book reviewing journal) are distributed monthly to the library liaison for each department. Simply initial the card and return it to the Technical Services Department or, you may use the online version at ChoiceReviews Online - http://www.cro2.org/. If there are multiple members of your department with the same initials, please include your full name so that we can notify you directly when the item arrives.
Orders for individual items exceeding $350 may require your school's approval.
Order Processing Time
Please place orders as far in advance as possible. Depending on availability, turnaround time varies from three weeks to several months. If an item is needed immediately, please email Jenny Kleine directly or use the online order form and include a note stating that you would like for this to be a priority order. We will attempt to give these orders precedence, although prompt shipment ultimately depends upon distributors' stock. You may call Jenny Kleine (ext. 5887) to inquire about your orders at any time.
Requests for Non-Book Formats
Requests for audiovisual materials should be submitted to Jenny Kleine (ext. 5887).
Requests for new periodical subscriptions should be directed to Maureen Morgan, Serials and Documents Librarian (ext. 4094).
Recommendations for databases and other electronic resources should be discussed with Martha Reynolds, Head of Public and Instructional Services (ext.1705).
