Reserves Request Form

Memorial Library offers a physical reserve platform for use by students.

HOW TO PLACE ITEMS ON RESERVE

  1. Complete and submit a copy of the  Reserves Request Form for each course.
  2. Submit personal copies of physical reserve items at the Library Service Desk two weeks before they will be needed by students.

COPYRIGHT GUIDELINES

Please note that copyright permission is not needed for articles or items accessible via our licensed databases as long as they are incorporated in to your VikingWeb course page via direct link, not scan.

The guidelines for all reserves are based on the provisions of fair use of the United States Copyright Act of 1976. Section 107 of the Copyright Act permits the making of multiple copies for classroom use.  Such educational copying does not require the payment of a royalty or the permission of the copyright owners provided that the circumstances of the use are fair as assessed by the four factors in Section 107 of the Copyright Act:

  1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes
  2. The nature of the copyrighted work
  3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole
  4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for and value of the copyrighted work

At the request of an instructor, physical materials may be placed on reserve in Memorial Library. It the responsibility of the instructor to determine whether their request meets the fair use test. To assist in this process, Memorial Library has developed a resource guide with links to more information about determining fair use. You may also find the Fair Use Evaluator from the Copyright Advisory Network a helpful tool. Also feel free to contact Memorial Library Director Sherre Harrington ( sharrington@berry.edu; 706-236-2285) if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY COURSE RESERVE MATERIAL AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER?

  • Items that are part of the library’s collection are returned to the shelf.
  • Personal copies are returned to the instructor.
